Palm trees have relatively short lifespans The areca palm has a fairly short lifespan of 40 to 50 years, while the popular coconut palm lives between 70 and 100 years, and most date palms hang on for 100 to 120 years. The date palm can reach 200 years of age in some cases, however.

Base soil component: A good base for palm plant soil is a mix of peat moss or coco coir and well-aerated potting soil. You can use a 50:50 mix of peat moss or coco coir and potting soil to create a well-draining base that retains moisture. Sand for drainage: Add coarse sand or perlite to improve drainage in the soil.

Generally speaking, the larger the palm, the more water you need. Water your palm outdoors and pour 0.5–4 gallons (1.9–15.1 L) around the base of the plant until the soil is thoroughly soaked. Give the water 30-60 minutes to drain before taking the plant indoors. Most palm trees only require water every 2-3 weeks.
